The "Little Mo" Grand Slam - Dream It!
Carol Weyman - March 27th, 2013 at 11:29PM
NEW for 2013 -- In honor of Maureen "Little Mo" Connolly's 60th anniversary of winning the Grand Slam (1953), we are announcing the ultimate challenge for any player to win the "Little Mo" Grand Slam.
If a player can win all three '"Little Mo" Internationals this year, the player will receive the tallest trophy ever given in junior tennis - a 6' tall trophy and the title of "Little Mo" Grand Slam Champion.
1st leg: "Little Mo" Internationals in Colorado Springs, Colorado - July 3-8
(U.S. Air Force Academy)
2nd leg: "Little Mo" Internationals in Forest Hills, New York - August 18-24
(The West Side Tennis Club)
3rd leg: "Little Mo" Internationals in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida - December 6-11
(PGA National Resort & Spa)
The "Little Mo" International tournaments are open to any player from the United States and worldwide ages 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Only the yellow ball divisions are eligible to win The "Little Mo" Grand Slam.
Eligibility for The "Little Mo" Grand Slam
12s - born in 2001
11's - born in 2002
10's - born in 2003
9's - born in 2004
8's - born in 2005 or 2006.
Maureen "Little Mo" Connolly was the first woman to win the Grand Slam in 1953 - winning all four major tournaments in one calendar year (Australian, French, Wimbledon and U.S. Open). She is still the only American woman and the youngest (age 18) to have accomplished this magnificent feat.
We wish you good luck in trying to win The "Little Mo" Grand Slam of junior tennis.
"Little Mo" News
Carol Weyman - March 27th, 2013 at 11:39PM
Dear "Little Mo" Players and Parents,
Great news! We are planning to return to the historic Forest Hills at The West Side Tennis Club for the "Little Mo" Internationals (August 18-24) and the "Little Mo" Internationals in Florida at the beautiful PGA National Resort & Spa (December 6-11).
We also look forward to seeing you this year on the "Road to the Little Mo Nationals" - sectionals, regionals and nationals.
All "Little Mo" matches will be played with yellow ball for ages 8, 9, 10, and 11. (Green dot divisions will be offered in addition to the yellow ball as a choice for 8's and 9's depending on the sectional.) Please note: only yellow ball divisions will advance to the "Little Mo" Regional level.
New for 2013 - Players can play in any "Little Mo" Sectional they wish but must follow the path to the appropriate "Little Mo" Regional. For example, a player who lives in Georgia may play in the "Little Mo" Texas but will need to follow the path of the Texas sectional and play in the South Regionals. The only exception: players who live in California must play in California - either Northern Cal or Southern Cal sectionals. Please note: the Southern Cal sectionals date (July 5-7) overlaps the "Little Mo" Internationals date (July 3-8). If you live in Southern Cal and want to play in the "Little Mo" Internationals, please register for the internationals and at the completion of the tournament you will receive a "wildcard" to the West Regionals in Gold River, CA (August 2-4). Players who don't live in California are able to play in the Southern Cal and Northern Cal sectionals. Also, the Northern section will now be a part of the North Regionals. If you are playing with yellow ball, players can only play in one "Little Mo" sectional tournament and only one division. If you are playing with the green dot ball, you are now able to play in as many "Little Mo" sectionals, as you would like - this includes California players. The only requirement: if you are wanting to enter the yellow ball division, you can't play in the green dot division in the same tournament.
Please help us spread the word, as it will be a fun weekend.
See you on the courts!
